Gaja Sperss 2015 Barolo, Angelo Gaja

Jeb Dunnuck (tidligere Erobertparker.com anmelder, nu JebDunnuck.com) er ude og sammeligne den med Gaja's efterhånden legendariske årgang 1997, og giver den 100 point!!

Aromaer af frisk mynte, roser og rød bær og menthol. Smagen byder på tørrede kirsebær, granatæble, lakris, espresso og tobak sammen med en tæt fin tannin og frisk syre.

 Med købet af vinmarken Sperss (28 ha. i en højde af ca. 400 m.) i 1988 nær landsbyen Serralunga, gik en gammel drøm endelig i opfyldelse for GAJA. Han havde tidligere måttet købe Barolo-druer fra andre producenter, men nu fik han endelig fuld kontrol over hele produktionen. Man skal huske, at GAJA familien i virkeligheden havde produceret Barolo indtil 1961, hvor man besluttede at koncentrere arbejdet på de familieejede vinmarker i Barbaresco. De druer, man dengang købte for at producere Barolo, kom netop fra Marenca e Rivettes marker, som man i 1988 fik mulighed for at købe. Det kunne ikke andet end at bringe lidt "nostalgi" frem, et ord som i den lokale dialekt hedder "Sperss", og som Angelo GAJA derfor valgte!Gæringen foretages i ståltanke og er efterfulgt af en malolaktisk gæring. Derefter er vinen modnet i to faser: Først 24 mdr. i "barriques" (225 l.) og derefter 12 mdr. i større traditionelle træfade.Sperss fra GAJA har en intens, mørkerød, kirsebær farve. Klassisk for vinene fra Serralunga området kræver Sperss en god iltning, før den frigiver dens mørke, meget komplekse og forførende duft med nuancer af mørke bær og hvide trøfler. Til sidst udvikler den en utroligt delikat aroma. Smagen er dyb, kraftfuld og "maskulin" med en flot finish, hvor man både finder krydrede og 'jammy' nuancer men samtidig næsten lidt grønlige 'vegetale' karakterer.

 The 2015 Barolo Sperss is another smoking good 2015 that shows the sunny warmth of the vintage in its massive bouquet of blackcurrants, kirsch liqueur, red plums, Asian spices, violets, and flowery incense. It reminds me of the incredible 1997, and Barolo doesn't get any more sexy or opulent. This brilliant, full-bodied wine has ripe, velvety tannins, beautiful depth of fruit, and a great finish. It needs a solid hour in a decanter if drinking any time soon and will benefit from 5-7 years of bottle age. It should drink brilliantly over the following 25-30 years.  (11/2019)

 The 2015 Barolo Sperss shows all of the darkness and muscle that are so typical of Serralunga. Black cherry, plum, licorice, incense, gravel, cured meats and scorched earth infuse this potent, backward wine with tremendous character. My impression is that the extraction and oak are all a bit more pushed here relative to the other wines in the range. (AG)  (11/2019)

 Very ripe strawberry and cherry aromas with undertones of flowers and cedar. Hints of fresh leather, too. Full body and round, soft tannins with lots of intensity at the finish. Round and fruity, yet always reserved. Needs time to come completely together.  (11/2019)

 In the 2015 Barolo Sperss, you can taste the iron rust and minerality that is so specific to the soils of Serralunga d'Alba where this wine is born. It is very bold and represents the more powerful of these two wines from Barolo. Cerequio is always the more floral, while the Sperss has an immediate cherry and some lingering, bold, blackberry aromas that make a strong impact. However, this wine does not have the austerity of a classic Barolo. Instead it shows a richer texture and it casts a wider net of flavors. Serralunga d'Alba fruit is marked by stronger concentration and ripeness, with a very firm and unyielding quality of tannin that should hold the wine steady as it moves through its aging evolution. This is a truly beautiful albeit brawny Nebbiolo. (ML) 97+  (8/2019)
