Our Plungerhead Lodi Zinfandel is dark purple in color with a lot of old vine character aromas. The aromas are reminiscent of black cherry, blackberry compote, aged balsamic reduction, earthy mushroom, musky leather, and smoky bacon. On your palate, you will see flavors of sweet blackberries, black pepper, cherry hard candy, plum preserves, coriander, roasted French Oak, and hints of leather, cinnamon bark, and mint. On the finish, there are notes of candied toasted pecan, cherries jubilee, smoked sea salt, and dried blueberries. This is a very layered style of Lodi Zinfandel. It keeps turning corners and going from fruity to savory to tart and then back to sweet. This style screams for Kansas City style barbeque. Go with chicken thighs and drums with a sweet smoky BBQ sauce or Santa Maria style tri tip with a garlic, black pepper rub. Or try smoked tomatoes and mushrooms tossed over penne pasta with good olive oil and lots of shredded asiago cheese. As long as you are outside and something is cooking on your grill, you are covered with this Zin.
